About this Event
Greenwood Rising presents a conversation between Hannibal Johnson, Tim Long, and Jerome Johnson, the creators of the cutting-edge original musical theatre work A Song of Greenwood.
Tim Long and Jerome Johnson, aka LoJoWERKz , are a Tulsa-based musical playwright team who, after eight formative years building a reputation in the regional market, burst onto the National scene in 2004 when their cutting-edge original musical theatre work piqued the interest of Broadway luminary Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, etc.) Over the decades, the work of the Harold Arlen Awardwinning playwright/composer team has garnered the support of numerous top nationally known arts organizations including: The National Endowment for the Arts, The ASCAP Foundation, Disney Theatrical Productions, The New York Musical Theatre Festival, the Harold Arlen Foundation, and the American Association of Community Theatre. A Song of Greenwood was destined to enter the picture again since Jerome and Tim had continued to tweak the show through the years, giving it a major priority focus in 2017. Plans were well underway to bring A Song of Greenwood back to audiences for the Centennial commemoration of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 when the pandemic brought all theatrical productions to a screeching halt. In a bold move, Jerome and Tim made the decision to do something they had been mulling over for some time, to expand the stage musical into a multi-episode series for streaming platforms. With 30 years of research and development, A Song of Greenwood has grown into a work rich with intriguing characters and storylines, highenergy dance numbers and soul-stirring music; a work of musical film art pulsing with the passion of two Tulsans tenaciously determined that the voices of their beloved city’s ancestors will finally sing once again.
