About this Event

Welcome to the Aquatic Fish Ecology Workshop with the River Institute! Join us on Saturday, August 15th, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Saunders Hydro Dam Visitor Centre and dive into the world of fish ecology in this hands-on FREE workshop!

Through discussion, field sampling and analysis methods, participants will learn about many local fish species including their significance and how to identify them using key characteristics. There will be a focus on native and invasive species. Participants may have the opportunity to collect field samples by using seine nets or gill nets to catch fish, as well as learn fish processing skills, how to measure and weigh a fish, how to record field notes and how to use an ID guide.

A River Institute crew will be catching fish on the boat using gill nets, and this will be broadcast in the auditorium. Plus, watch the River Institute crew in action as they catch fish from the boat, streamed live in the auditorium!

Suitable for all ages, this is an opportunity you won't want to miss!

Registration is required. Space is limited.
