About this Event

Your future self will thank you for becoming more intentional with your professional relationship building starting now.
Many Columbia alumni, especially those in more specialized, technical roles, deep inside think
- networking is a “necessary evil” and
- one really only “has to do” it when actively looking for a new job.
This couldn’t be further from the reality.
Like compounding interest, the value of your professional relationships grows exponentially when you invest consistently, not just when you're job hunting.
What to expect
- 🌱💡 Mindset shift to make building your professional relationships AND reputation actually enjoyable.
- ✅🚀 We’ll go through 5 Must-Dos which can make a huge difference in the opportunities, contacts and options you will have by the end of 2025.
- 🎯✨ Furthermore, you’ll be able to pick according to your personality and preferences one of 7 actionable strategies for 2025 on how to revive and grow your network.
- 🤐🌟 3 out of them being particularly introvert-friendly and none involves awkward conversations with warm beer and strangers you'll never see again.
- 🤝🎉 Join us to strengthen the foundation of your professional success in 2025. Getting to know the other alumni and workshop participants is an extra bonus :).
What NOT to expect
However beware, this is not a “Networking 101” presentation you’d get from a college career center. We won’t talk about filling out your Linkedin profile, encourage you to go to more senseless meetup events or remind you to send a thank you note after you meet with someone for coffee.
This will be a highly interactive workshop and we assume that as a Columbia grad working in the highest cost of living area in the US, you know a thing or two about effective networking.

About the Host
Katka Sabo (Columbia Business School'17) is our new President of Columbia North California Alumni Association (welcome!) and ex-McKinsey consultant & tech product manager turned entrepreneur. She’s also an award-winning speaker, co-leads the oldest & largest public speaking club in SF (Golden Gate Toastmasters). The lack of fulfillment from networking events and her frustration with how hard it is to make friends as an adult led her to do a lot of research and experiments (ask her about BYO bouncy house in the local parks)- and she is a sought-after expert on building social capital on the individual and organizational level.
