Happy New Year and welcome back to a whole new Friday Milonga at OmCulture.
Please note that we are changing the opening format of the 3rd Friday milonga. From now on, we will open doors by 7:15 and run a one-hour class before the dance. These classes will be taught by some of our excellent local teachers who will offer an intermediate/advanced class to give you an idea of their teaching style. There is no charge for the class. OmCulture is offering this both as a means for local teachers to promote themselves and as an opportunity for dancers to learn and socialize prior to the milonga.
We will also occasionally invite well-known teachers from outside Seattle. For this milonga, we are happy to host world champion dancer Maestro Maximiliano Cristiani. This class will be aimed at intermediate to advanced dancers. The topic will be Variations of Medio Giros for Social Dance Floor: demystifying the concept and solidifying the technique.
Following the class, we are delighted to have Vivek Rao DJing the evening. In Vivek's words, his approach to tango music is shaped by a lifelong connection to rhythm and movement. Raised in a home filled with Indian classical music and dance—his mother a dancer, his sister a singer, and he himself a drummer—he developed an early sensitivity to musical nuance and flow.
Since beginning his Argentine tango journey in 2012, Vivek has blended these cross-cultural influences into a thoughtful, dancer-centered style of DJing that values clarity, connection, and mood.
