About this Event

Architectural challenges are global, while architecture itself must be localized. It is in local communities we realize and maintain architectural solutions to the great challenges of our time: the climate crises, resource crises and humanitarian crises.

In this session, we launch the book “10 Principles to Build On – reaching for sustainability in architecture” and expand on the outcome of the UIA World Congress 2023 in Copenhagen. The 10 Principles respond to the UN SDGs and pressing global challenges across both social and environmental sustainability.

Our speakers each present a local perspective reflecting their context and point to projects developed by and with local community, anchored in local building practice and climate, and most importantly demonstrating a deep empathic approach to understanding what the specific communities need.

Our planet is in transition. Becoming both globally and locally attuned holds a potential to make the unavoidable transition a sustainable one – for both people and planet.
