Copper Foil Stained Glass Workshop Series
A 3-Week Deep Dive with Kayla from Desert Willow Glass
Ready to move beyond the basics and truly learn the art of stained glass? This 3-week immersive workshop is designed for students who want a more in-depth stained glass experience than a traditional one-day class. Whether you’re considering stained glass as a long-term hobby, wanting to build confidence with the copper foil method, or simply looking for a creative summer experience, this course is designed to give you the time, guidance, and hands-on practice to fully understand the process from start to finish. Over the course of three Thursday evening sessions, students will create a larger stained glass panel (approximately 12”x12”) using a pattern of their choice while learning the foundations, techniques, and troubleshooting skills needed to continue creating independently.
All tools and materials are included in the course cost — no additional purchases are required. Students are welcome to bring their own tools or supplies if preferred.
Course Details
* Thursdays, July 9th, 16th, & 23rd at 6PM (2-3 hours each session)
* Location: South of Here, Co. at 10 S. Main St. Burnet, TX, 78611
* Cost: $320, All tools & materials included
* Beginner-friendly | All experience levels welcome
Orientation & Pattern Selection After registering, Kayla will personally reach out to learn more about your experience level, creative interests, and project goals. Students will receive a curated packet of pattern suggestions along with guidance for selecting or sourcing their own design. All patterns must be selected and approved by Friday, July 3rd. ⸻ Course Schedule
Week One — July 7th | 6 PM–8 PM Glass Cutting & Grinding Foundations
* Glass selection
* Tool overview & studio safety
* Intro to glass cutting
* Cutting deep curves
* Troubleshooting difficult cuts
* When to let the grinder do the work * Grinder setup & use
* Guided workshop time for cutting & grinding
Week Two — July 14th | 6 PM–8 PM Foiling Techniques & Precision
* Grinder recap & troubleshooting
* Foil width & backing color considerations
* Proper foiling techniques
* Clean edge preparation
* Workshop time for grinding & foiling
Week Three — July 21st | 6 PM–9 PM Soldering, Framing & Finishing
* Soldering demonstration
* Troubleshooting soldering issues
* Guided soldering workshop
* Lead came borders
* Attaching hooks & hardware
* Patina prep & application
* Final polishing & finishing
