Celebrate Black History Month with the first Snell Lecture of 2026, an inspiring afternoon of music, theology, and cultural reflection. Open to all. No RSVP required.
🎼 The lecture begins with a musical presentation by The Nathaniel Dett Chorale, performing The Nguzo Saba Suite, followed by a public lecture from Dr. Stephen Newby of Baylor University.
📖 Dr. Newby’s lecture, “Kindred, Kindness, Koinónia – Black Sacred Music: The Music of Andraé Crouch and his Musical Community,” explores the theological and cultural significance of Andraé Crouch’s Gospel music and its intersection with the Nguzo Saba, the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa.
⏰Snell Lecture Schedule:
4:30pm: The Nguzo Saba Suite by The Nathaniel Dett Chorale
5:00pm: Lecture by Dr. Stephen Newby + Q&A followed by reception (details below).
🌍 International Potluck | Sunday, February 22 from 6:00–8:00pm
Continue the celebration after the lecture with an International Potluck in Snell Hall, celebrating the many nations and cultures that make up our Cathedral community.
✨ All are welcome — come for the lecture, stay for the food, and celebrate Black History Month together in community.
