📌 Meet at the information kiosk next to the restrooms in the Pony Pasture Parking Lot. We’ll have a brief introduction before beginning our hike promptly at 8:00 AM.
Celebrate Labor Day on the trails with East Coast Hikers as we explore one of Richmond’s most scenic riverfront destinations! We’ll hike approximately 6 miles through the James River Park System, exploring the Pony Pasture, The Wetlands, and Huguenot Flatwater trail areas. Expect shaded forest paths, beautiful river overlooks, rocky rapids, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the scenery.
🥾 Planned Hiking Route
We’ll begin at the information kiosk next to the restrooms and head down to Pony Pasture Rapids, where we’ll enjoy spectacular views of the James River before following the trails through Pony Pasture.
From there, we’ll cross the bridge into The Wetlands, exploring its scenic boardwalks, wooded trails, and river access points. We’ll then continue west along the Huguenot Flatwater Trail, enjoying peaceful river scenery before looping back through the trail system to return to the Pony Pasture parking lot.

* 🥾 Distance: Approximately 6 miles (with the option to extend to 6.5–8 miles if there’s group interest)

* 🌿 James River overlooks
* 📸 Excellent photo opportunities

* 🚻 Permanent restrooms are available at the trailhead before and after the hike. There are no restrooms along the trail, so please use the facilities before we begin.
* 🐕 Leashed dogs are welcome.
* 💲 Free parking.

* Plenty of water (at least 2 liters)
* Snacks
* 🥾 Comfortable hiking shoes or boots
* Bug spray
* Sunscreen
Important: Please arrive by 7:45 AM so we can check everyone in and begin hiking promptly at 8:00 AM. The trail includes rocks, roots, and uneven terrain, so sturdy hiking footwear is highly recommended.
