🟣 O WYDARZENIU / ABOUT THE EVENT
🇵🇱 Dyrektorka PME i zespół kuratorski oprowadzą nas po wystawie czasowej „Afrotopie”. Wystawa ta powstała z potrzeby opowiedzenia „o czymś, o czym wciąż niewiele wiemy” – o prawdziwej, współczesnej Afryce, miejscu wielu kultur, historii, tradycji i społeczności. Muzeum oddaje głos afrykańskim artystkom i artystom, pochodzącym i mieszkającym m.in. w Togo, Nigrze, Mali i Kenii, by Ci odpowiedzieli o swoim kontynencie z perspektywy o jakiej nie przeczytamy w magazynach podróżniczych czy serwisach informacyjnych.
🇬🇧 Museum's director and curatorial team will guide you through the new temporary exhibition „Afrotopias”. This exhibition was created out of the need to tell „something we still know very little about” – about real, contemporary Africa, a place of many cultures, histories, traditions and communities. The museum gives the floor to African artists, originating and living in Togo, Niger, Mali and Kenya among others, to tell you about their continent from a perspective that we will not learn about in travel magazines or news services.
🟣 PROWADZENIE / GUIDES
🇵🇱 dr Magdalena Wróblewska – historyczka sztuki i muzeolożka, zainteresowana problematyką dekolonialności, adiunktka na Wydziale Artes Liberales Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. Stypendium typu post-doc odbyła w Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz- Max-Planck-Institut i Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (2012-14). W latach 2015-2021 w Muzeum Warszawy odpowiadała za program badań i kierowała kilkoma zespołami: Działu Badań nad Warszawą, Działu Archeologicznego, Centrum Interpretacji Zabytku i Korczakianum. Była współkuratorką wystawy głównej „Rzeczy warszawskie”, odpowiedzialną za „Gabinet Portretów”. Prowadzony przez nią projekt „Skąd się biorą warszawiacy? Migracje do Warszawy w XIV-XXI w.” został nagrodzony Sybillą przez Narodowy Instytut Muzealnictwa i Ochrony Zbiorów (2016). W ramach projektu City Museums and Multiple Colonial Pasts w projekcie ECHOES (H2020) opublikowała wraz z C. Ariese książkę „Practicing Decoloniality in Museums: A Guide with Global Examples” (Amsterdam University Press, 2021). Autorka książek i artykułów na temat fotografii, m.in. „Fotografie ruin, ruiny fotografii. 1944-2014” (2014, nagrodzona przez NIMOZ w konkursie „Muzeum widzialne” w 2015), „Obrazy pamięci i wiedzy. Fotograficzne reprodukcje dzieł w archiwach i narracjach historii sztuki” (2022). W 2023 roku odbyła staż badawczy w Department for Anthropology, Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution w Waszyngtonie.
🇬🇧 Malaika Nabila is a visual artist from Togo, author of cultural projects and curator of exhibitions. Among other projects, she is a co-founder of the Togo Yeye project, which aims to create works that empower Togolese youth, document their activities, and support creative communities in Togo and the diaspora. As part of the Blacklines project, she develops traditional West African textile dyeing techniques such as batik, indigo, and bogolan. Nabila’s mission is to protect the locality of traditional textile production while preserving the rich cultural heritage and supporting the economic development of her country. Malaika Nabila has participated in the organization of festivals and residencies in Lomé, Togo, and Lagos, Nigeria.
🇵🇱 Witek Orski jest artystą wizualnym, fotografem i kuratorem wystaw. Autor zdjęć, instalacji i obiektów. Praktyka artystyczna jest dla niego przestrzenią badań i dociekań filozoficznych. W polu jego zainteresowań znajdują się społeczne i polityczne funkcje fotografii oraz jej status w kulturze wizualnej. Istotnym narzędziem jest dla niego samo medium wystawy – często aranżuje cykle prac w skomplikowane eseje wizualne. Orski ukończył filozofię na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim. Tytuł doktora uzyskał na Uniwersytecie Artystycznym w Poznaniu. Wykłada w Szkole Filmowej w Łodzi.
🇬🇧 Amy N. Muhoro is a Kenyan multidisciplinary artist, cultural researcher, and exhibition curator. Her work focuses on the intersections of history and culture and the role they have played in people’s lives throughout history. Using and combining a variety of media, she primarily examines the impact of globalization on the history of communities, communication systems, and contemporary identities, particularly on the African continent and in African diasporas. She works with local communities to highlight voices that are often overlooked or marginalized in mainstream discourse. Her work has been exhibited at Creatives Garage Arts Trust and the Goethe Institut (Nairobi, Kenya), as well as at the Museum of Modern Art (Warsaw), the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and the WRO Art Center (Wrocław).
