Description:
The Youth Start & Discover Paddlesport Programme, delivered by Paddle NI and Erne Paddlers, is a four‑week introduction to paddlesport for young people aged 10–17.
The programme is designed to help participants build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy being on the water in a safe, supportive and inclusive environment. Sessions will primarily take place in kayaks, providing a stable and accessible craft for young people to learn and progress in.
Each session combines practical paddling skills, games and exploration to help young people grow in confidence on and around the water. Participants will develop essential paddling techniques, improve their water confidence and learn how to stay safe while enjoying new experiences
Throughout the programme, young paddlers will make new friends, work together as a team and take part in activities that encourage communication, creativity and resilience. Whether taking their first strokes or building on existing experience, every session is designed to be engaging, supportive and rewarding.

This four‑week programme is also the start of a wider paddling journey. Participants will be introduced to the many opportunities available within paddlesport, PaddleNI clubs, regular sessions and future development pathways. Our aim is to inspire a lifelong enjoyment of being on the water and help every young person continue their adventure long after the programme ends.

All participants will be fitted with a correctly sized buoyancy aid and kept under close supervision by the instructors.

Equipment:
We provide: All the paddlesports equipment needed - kayaks, spraydecks, paddles, buoyancy aids and helmets.
You bring: Personal paddling wear. You can wear a wetsuit if you have one, or normal outdoor sports clothes; fleeces or tracksuit and top, to suit the weather. Please wear shoes to get wet and a waterproof coat. Get in touch if you need more advice about what gear to wear or buy. You must bring a full set of dry clothes, shoes and a towel.
Facilities:
There are no changing facilities. For these courses most people find it best to arrive ready to go paddling.
Afterwards, you can change at your car, or drive straight home. For changing at your car (as many paddlers do), a changing towel and mat to stand on make this a much easier and discreet process. Or some prefer to stay in their paddling kit and use a large bin liner to sit on in the car, and change at home. We do recommend that you shower soon after paddling.
Times: 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
Dates: 4 x Monday evenings; 27th July, 3rd, 10th and 17th August
Location: Gortin Glen Lakes Map Link
Prices: Tickets are priced at £24. This price covers all four sessions.
A standard 4-week course typically costs £70, but thanks to generous subsidies from Paddle NI, we are able to offer this at a significantly reduced rate. It is an excellent, low cost opportunity for young people to experience the thrill of paddlesports.

GDPR Statement: This programme is delivered in partnership with Paddle NI.
