Youth Hero Awards and Race Amity Day Celebration!
Combined with The Youth Hero Awards, performances, FREE food, vendors, and dancing, this is a community event you won't want to miss!
Race Amity Day is celebrated nationally on the 2nd Sunday of June. The day was made official in Amherst by the crucial leadership of the late, Raymond S. Elliott Sr. . He also served as the Civil Rights Commissioner in Amherst, the President of the Western Massachusetts Chapter of NAACP, and a recipient of Amherst’s Martin Luther King Citizens Award, and founded Citizens for Racial Amity Now in 2013. As an active member of the Baha’i Faith, Ray Elliott had a deep passion for racial justice and equity.
In 2015, Amherst became the FIRST town in the State to formally recognize Race Amity Day, on the 2nd Sunday of June.
We have a LONG way to go, but Race Amity Day is about learning our history, celebrating our diversity, and uplifting community!
