About this Event
You asked, and we listened—introducing Youth Classes at Pudgy's Place! :) This four-week session is focused on hand-building with clay (working on the table).
Here is a rough outline of the weekly schedule and goals (please see the agenda section for a full breakdown and details of each week):
- Coil-building a tree plate
- Slab-building wall hanging box with mini figure(s) inside
- Combination coil+slab sculpture incorporating textures and stamps
- The last class is glazing (painting the pottery)
Our beginner's pottery class is specially designed to teach your young ones the basics of hand-building. We will cover all of the basic styles and principles of hand-building! Our goal in this class is to give you the best possible clay education while keeping the class and atmosphere fun and inviting. Specifically, they'll learn how to coil, pinch, and slab-build with glazing (the top colorful coat) being the final class. This 4-week course will meet every Sunday beginning January 5th from 10 - 11:30 am with the final class being held on January 26th. There is one make-up session per person per class if you are sick or life gets in the way. Please email us if you need to reschedule and we will coordinate with you! :) Please note, that it will take 1-2 weeks after the final class to finish the clay pieces as they need to be fired in the kiln one more time. These can be picked up at the studio when completed or shipped out for an added fee.
Parents are welcome to stay the whole time or drop off their kids and pick them up after the session. Please note parents MUST pick their children up after class as other adult classes follow. We are offering a 4-week YOUTH wheel-throwing clay class in January, a Drawing 101 class in March, and 2 painting 1-day workshops in February—all for ages 8-15!
Note: Shahane will be the instructor! She has taught pottery since 2016, got her BFA in ceramic arts in 2015 with a double minor in art history and psychology, and owns Pudgy's Place with her husband Phillip :)
