Youth Camp: Wheel Throwing & Hand Building, August 10-14, 9 AM-3 PMLearn the fundamentals of wheel and hand-built clay to craft functional and sculptural forms.
Explore the creative possibilities of clay in this hands-on ceramics camp. Students will learn the fundamentals of both wheel throwing and hand-building, developing the skills needed to create functional pottery and sculptural forms.
Throughout the week, campers will work on the pottery wheel to learn basic throwing techniques such as centering clay, pulling walls, and shaping simple vessels like bowls or cups. Students will also explore hand-building methods including pinch, coil, and slab construction to create unique sculptural and functional pieces.
Artists will experiment with texture, carving, and surface design to personalize their work, learning how form, balance, and detail can transform clay into expressive artwork. Campers will also be introduced to glazing techniques that add color and finish to their ceramic pieces.
This camp encourages patience, creativity, and craftsmanship while giving students the opportunity to work with clay in a fully equipped ceramics studio. By the end of the week, each participant will have a collection of handmade ceramic works to share at the Friday Mini Art Exhibition.
