About this Event

Join the City of Rancho Cordova and the Sacramento Tree Foundation to learn how to prune young shade trees for strong structure and beauty. A few simple cuts made now will save a ton of time and money when the trees are mature.

The first part of the pruning workshop will be held outdoors at Stone creek Park, 3625 Spoto Dr, Rancho Cordova, CA 95670.

Afterwards, all volunteers will make their way to the pruning site on Stone Creek Community Bike Trail (0.25 miles away) located at the corner of Spoto Drive & North Mather Boulevard, where we will practice pruning the young trees planted along the trail. Must be 18 years or older to use pruning tools. Volunteers must travel the 0.25 miles from the park to the pruning site on their own; transportation will not provided by SacTree.

Instructor Pamela Sanchez is an ISA Certified Arborist - Municipal Specialist with over 10 years of experience teaching people how to care for trees in Sacramento as the Education Programs Manager at the Sacramento Tree Foundation. Pamela's passion for young tree care and connecting people with their urban canopy spurs her work creating educational experiences from tree care workshops to monitoring historic elms, to harvesting native oak acorns, to engaging elementary school students. She has a degree in Urban Forestry from UC Davis.

Register now! The week before this event, we will send a logistics and directions email with detailed information about how to get to the site. You will receive this email ONLY if you are signed-up for this planting.

About this project

At the Sacramento Tree Foundation, we steward our urban forest from seed to slab. With your help, we plant over 12,000 trees every year, but the work doesn't stop there. Trees need regular care to thrive, especially for their first three years after planting. We provide free resources, workshops, and educational volunteer opportunities to teach people how to plant, water, prune, and care for their trees and ensure our urban forest thrives for generations to come.

This event is sponsored by the City of Rancho Cordova.

If you have questions about caring for your trees or bringing a workshop to your neighborhood, please reach out to [email protected].
