Yoga, The Nervous System & The Three Gunas

What if the ancient yogic map of sattva, rajas, and tamas could help us better understand stress, addiction, anxiety, burnout, and healing in modern life?

In this workshop, we’ll explore the intersection of yoga philosophy, nervous system science, breathwork, and recovery psychology through the lens of the three gunas of Sāṃkhya philosophy. Together we’ll examine how these energetic qualities shape the way we think, feel, react, crave, avoid, connect, and recover.

We’ll discuss:

• The gunas: sattva, rajas, and tamas

• Fight, flight, freeze, and the autonomic nervous system

• Polyvagal theory and vagal tone

• Breath as a gateway into nervous system regulation

• Attachment, aversion, and the roots of suffering

• Yogic philosophy and modern recovery frameworks

• Practical tools for cultivating clarity, steadiness, and self-awareness

Expect a blend of lecture, reflection, breathwork, journaling, and embodied practice.

This workshop is for yoga practitioners, teachers, recovery communities, nervous system nerds, overthinkers, spiritually curious people, and anyone interested in understanding themselves with a little more compassion and clarity.
