About this Event
Relaxation is a skill, practice it with us! Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation practice designed and proven to encourage parasympathetic (relaxation) function, clear your mind, reduce tension, and anxiety.
Yoga Nidra is also known as "yogic sleep" because this practice seeks to accomplish two goals: achieve deep relaxation while meditating, without slipping into sleep, and remaining fully conscious. When asleep, we lose track of ourselves; however, in Yoga Nidra, where the consciousness of the world is dim and relaxation is deep, there remains an inward lucidity and awareness of physical and mental sensations or experiences.
This is the deepest possible form of relaxation and may reduce the autonomic symptoms of anxiety such as headaches, tension, chest pain, restless sleep, heart palpitations, sweating, numbness, abdominal pain, and other stress-related symptoms.
In this class we will begin by lying down on our mats while Sotantar Suraj leads us through a guided relaxation and meditation. Class ends with a soothing sound immersion using gongs.
What to bring:
- a yoga mat ($5 rental mats available in limited supply)
- comfortable clothes to lie down in
- an eye mask and blanket (optional)
Studio blankets and bolsters are provided for extra comfort during class.
