More about Yala Lati Women's Choir
Yala Lati is a sisterhood of women’s voices rising to praise life and bless the world. We sing beautiful, uplifting songs and transcendent harmonies from various artists and traditions that invoke the power of love, unity among all people, and reverence for all life. We are devoted to empowering women’s voices, uplifting women’s lives, and building a strong, vibrant community here in Santa Cruz.
We’ve been offering Spring and Winter concerts since the year 2005, and almost every show has been a sell-out! We also love to sing at community events, marches, rallys, spiritual centers, and benefit concerts. Over the years we’ve offered our loving hearts and harmonious voices to the women at our local J*il, and have given thousands of dollars to local organizations that care for people and the planet. We feel especially blessed that we had the great honor of singing before the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers for their 7th council meeting in Sedona, Arizona. In addition, we are the beautiful voices you hear on Heather’s “Sisters of the Moon” album!
About Our Director, Heather Houston:
Beloved community choir director, recording artist, and women’s vocal empowerment coach, Heather Houston, is passionate about uplifting hearts, freeing voices, and building strong, loving communities through the power of singing. She spreads her magic through her 30+years experience writing and producing music, and offering life transforming singing experiences at Sivananda Bahamas, Soulshine Bali, The Esalen Institute, 1440 Multiversity, LA SongFest, Vox Mundi Santa Cruz, Threshold Choir events and Community Singing camps. Since 2021 she has been curating Sisters in Harmony Retreats with 100+ participants at Green Mountain Retreat Center in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
During the pandemic Heather gathered countless song leaders and singing communities from around the world on Zoom to unite hearts and voices in healing and prayer on her Sisters in Harmony Global Zoom Sings. She continues to offer online courses in The Art of Mindful Singing, Singing as Sanctuary, SHE Sings, and Sisters in Harmony Song Leader Trainings.
Heather’s songs are sung by communities across the globe, and weave themes of communion with the natural world, personal and collective healing, prayer, unity and inspiration. You can find her music on her website’s song library, and on all of the streaming platforms. Watch for the arrival of her new album, Shadows & Light, in the Fall of 2024.
