The Garden is going global! Join us for an incredible weekend featuring some of the best classic films from around the world. Running Friday, Oct. 10th - Sunday, Oct. 12th, we will be featuring films from 9 different countries. This inaugural weekend of international films includes beloved foreign classics like PLAYTIME, BICYCLE THIEVES, and METROPOLIS to rarely screened gems like Argentinian noir, NEVER OPEN THAT DOOR, or the West African satire, XALA.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: This savagely funny satire about the inept patriarchy of West Africa comes from noted Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembène (Black Girl, Mandabi), who adapts his own novel to screen. On the night of the wedding to his third wife, a corrupt politician is rendered impotent and believes one of his other two wives has placed a curse on him. Blending African folklore with popular cinema, XALA broke Senegalese box office records despite government censorship. In French and Wolof w/ subtitles.
