515 Meetinghouse Road Jenkintown, PA 19046
About the Artists:
BIRDIE BUSCH
Birdie Busch has been steadily crafting a sprawling, genre-defying modern American songbook. Critics from American Songwriter to Paste Magazine have likened Birdie’s spirit to Syd Barrett and Eudora Welty, while acknowledging what she does as her own thing, with appreciation for the strange and beautiful place it resides. Her latest record, Night Blooming, is about big societal changes as much as immediate community needs. Perseverance by hook or crook. Breaks and reconnection. Paying attention. Growing internal and external land/sound/lifescapes and the relationships between them. It’s about not always knowing-with awareness that even unknowing is transmuted through the process. If we are wading in a metaphorical and physical swamp Birdie Busch’s songs are an attempt at what should be left when the mesh gets pulled up from the murk. This record is full of golden nuggets and mystical gems from that sifting.
THE HOLMESBURG JAM
The jam began in the spring of 1972 with a couple of Father Judge High School graduates practicing the guitar and singing songs on Thursday nights. By 1976 it had blossomed into a primarily bluegrass and traditional country music jam made up mostly of local musicians meeting every Thursday night in Holmesburg and bars along Frankford Avenue during the colder months, and out on the Delaware river in the warmer months. Gradually, over the years, there was movement north away from Holmesburg and towards Montgomery county. For the past six or seven years, still every Thursday night, the Homesburg Jam has been playing in Jenkintown.
