About this Event

Join the Win With Black Women - DC Chapter (WWBW-DC) for an unforgettable journey through the National Museum of African American History and Culture celebrating the extraordinary legacy of Black women throughout history. This specially curated 2.5-hour tour traces the powerful contributions of Black women from Queen Nzinga of Angola to today's groundbreaking leaders.

THE JOURNEY

Our tour begins in the depths of the museum with Queen Nzinga, the 17th-century Angolan queen who masterfully resisted Portuguese colonization, and concludes with contemporary changemakers like Stacey Abrams, Michelle Obama, and Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Along the way, we'll explore:

  • Enslaved Women's Resistance: How women maintained family bonds and cultural traditions despite brutal circumstances
  • Harriet Tubman's Revolutionary Leadership: Beyond the Underground Railroad to her work as Union spy and military scout
  • Ida B. Wells' Fearless Journalism: Her groundbreaking anti-lynching investigations and civil rights activism
  • Hidden Figures of the Civil Rights Movement: The women like Ella Baker and Fannie Lou Hamer who organized behind the scenes
  • Black Feminist Thought: How women like Angela Davis and Audre Lorde created frameworks addressing race, gender, and class
  • Artistic Innovations: Black women's transformative contributions to literature, visual arts, and culture
  • Today's Trailblazers: Contemporary leaders continuing the legacy of resistance and achievement
