About this Event
Cabaret is a true art form – and mastering that art requires honing the musical and story-telling skills at the core of cabaret. Capital Cabaret’s Master Class offers both new and experienced artists the opportunity to work with and learn from well-established cabaret performers. Cabaret is so much more than just singing a song . . . it is about creating a moment, a mood, an experience. The Master Class setting will allow a singer to explore different aspects of a song and be coached on vocalization, audience connection, and the physical aspects of presenting a song. The goal is growth as a performer and the refinement of artistry.
Attendees should bring atleast 2 songs with sheet music for the piano.
Craig Pomranz is an internationally known singer/song-stylist, actor and author. Among his awards are New York’s MAC Award for Best Male Vocalist and the TOR Award for best actor in a musical venue. Originally from St. Louis, MO Craig got his professional start at age 12 performing at The MUNY (the largest outdoor theater in the country). Craig attended Carnegie-Mellon University and The Goodman Theatre - The Art Institute of Chicago.
Ron Squeri is a name heard through cabaret and recording history. His career spans decades. His performance career started in musical theater, and progressed to both cabaret and recording. One of his most enduring contributions to the recording world was his dedication to preserving the cabaret tradition. Ron understands the historical significance of this genre and made it his mission to ensure its legacy. Through his recordings, he introduced new generations to the magic of cabaret, helping to keep this intimate form of musical storytelling alive.
Melinda Levitt grew up in her native St. Louis training in ballet, tap, and jazz, as well as performing musical theater under the guidance of actress/director Lynn Cohen (Sex in the City’s Magda). During her years in DC, she has served as choreographer and as a movement coach to vocal performers and choral groups. While movement is not at the center of cabaret performance, its gentle inclusion can enhance the power of a song and the message the performer is giving. Melinda will work with singers to find a new, non-vocal approach to their songs and overall presentation
