The first week in February WTJU brings you all kinds of Folk music during the 2025 Marathon. You can depend on the dedicated volunteers to bring you inspired programming, day in, day out. When the world seems to be losing its mind, you can always tune in to WTJU to find yours again.

“All music is folk music; I ain’t never heard no horse sing a song.” So said Louis Armstrong, or possibly Big Bill Broonzy. Either way, WTJU embraces it.
This year’s Folk Marathon features an eclectic mix of programming. We’re remembering Kris Kristofferson and featuring artists like Bob Dylan, Nanci Griffith, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and Dar Williams. We’re also sharing music from Cape Breton, Cape Verde, Brazil, and all around the world.
Meanwhile, our sound techs are setting up mics for nine live performances from local artists. The line-up includes Bob Girard & Charlie Pastorfield, Ramona & the Holy Smokes, Red & the Romantics, Scuffletown, Buzzard Hollow Boys, BRIMS, Mama Tried and more! Plus special guest DJs Terri Allard, Waverly Milor, and The Currys. And did we mention the return of former WTJU deejay back in the 70s and 80s Bill Evans (Banjo Hall of Fame member and recipient of the Steve Martin Excellence in Banjo award)? Or how about Grammy winning John Doyle hosting a program?
For the first time, WTJU will also be hosting a post-Folk Marathon donor thank-you party! On Sunday, February 23 from 2-5 pm at the WTJU Stage, you can pick up your thank-you gifts, tour the studios, and enjoy refreshments with your favorite WTJU DJs and staff.
Throughout history, people have come together around music to remember and celebrate what it means to be human. None of us is alone in this life, and music offers all of us an opportunity to connect with others across boundaries.
