Prison labour in colonial New Zealand. 20th-century trade unions. A movement that’s just getting started. Join Lyndy McIntyre (Power to Win), Jared Davidson (Blood & Dirt) and Cybèle Locke (Comrade: Bill Andersen), authors who not only document different eras but each have a unique perspective on writing labour histories. Chaired by Toby Manhire, they’ll discuss their varied approaches—what is it like to write from the inside of a movement or glean the archives through the distance of time? How do these histories fit together in the bigger picture? And what can they contribute to ongoing efforts to support the aspirations of working people?
