Writing for Theatre Workshop: The Impact of an Audience

Who are you creating for?
In this practical workshop, discover how audiences shape storytelling by exploring how the same idea can change depending on who is watching.
Through discussion, reading and creative exercises, you'll explore writing for different settings, ages and communities, while unpacking how audience influences language, theatrical form and creative choices.
Along the way, we'll explore the unique collaboration between playwrights, directors, performers and audiences - and why theatre is an artform that only truly comes alive when it's shared.
All experience levels are invited to join in. And while this workshop will use the lens of theatre to discuss audiences, creative pratitioners of all artforms are welcome.
These events will be held on Yuwi Country, which lies between the O’Connell River in the north, Cape Palmerston in the south, and west to the Eungella Range.
I acknowledge the Yuwibara people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which I and my collaborators work, play, live, learn, and tell stories.
I pay my respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and acknowledge and uphold their continuing relationships to land, waterways, culture and community.
I recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples are Australia’s first and most enduring storytellers, artists, communities, and creators of culture.
