Discover how figurative language and form shape meaning, then craft short nature-inspired writing using powerful creative techniques.
About this Event

Students explore and respond to natural objects and environments through guided writing activities. They experiment with new interpretive and imaginative strategies and writing techniques, and use these to create short pieces of writing.
Students are introduced to key figurative writing techniques and explore how writers use form to shape meaning. They then use these tools to develop short pieces of writing inspired by their responses to the natural environment.

Location: Jubilee Centre (Meet under Trees in the green space between Artspace and Jubilee).
What to bring: All writing materials will be provided. However, students are encouraged to bring their favourite pens or notebooks if they wish.

This workshop is led by poet, educator and writing mentor Suzy Gordon. Her business, Word Oyster, offers a rich array of writing resources for children, parents, & educators. She sees writing as an open-hearted, embodied practice where creativity, intellect & growth meet — helping you write more effectively & joyfully.

Should your child wish to develop their writing into a piece/poem to be performed at the Earthcare Exhibition opening night on 19 August, Suzy will be available to offer one-to-one mentoring and guidance.
