Write with Joy! Writing Workshop

Hi, I'm Joy,

Welcome to Write with Joy!

I am a trained creative writing workshop leader, fiction writer, and former journalist. I believe that writing is a gift accessible to all people. A supportive writing community and writing as a form of self-care and joy are core components of my writing practice.

I started leading workshops like these as a writing workshop facilitator with the amazing, incomparable New York Writers Coalition and I still mostly use their model. I have led writing workshops with hundreds of participants online and in-person.

Here's how it works:

We start the session with a theme and do a few brainstorming exercises to get your wheels turning. Then, I introduce prompts which are based on the theme. For prompts, I use music, images, and quotes from literature in addition to more traditional writing prompts. You are free to choose whatever prompt you like. This is a writing period of 20-30 minutes. Between the brainstorming exercises and the prompts, we have engaging discussions sharing and responding to the writing.

At the end of the writing period, you are welcome to share what you wrote. This is not a critique space. In response to your writing, we talk about what worked and what moved us. The most important thing is that you leave feeling inspired to keep writing!

This is for you if:

• You're interested in creative writing but don't know where to start
• You're a creative writer in need of community
• You used to write, somehow life got in the way, and you miss it
• You're working on a long-term writing project and miss the joy of writing for fun
• You're interested in exploring something new in your writing
