About this Event
The Write Now! Conference has a 25-year tradition of providing exceptional literacy learning for PK-12 educators, literacy leaders, administrators, special educators, and paraprofessionals from across New England and eastern Canada. This year we turn our attention to the writing lessons that ignite thinking and expand learning for all students, alongside renowned researchers and teachers Carl Anderson, Matt Glover, and Linda Rief.
Join us Friday evening from 4:30 to 6:30 pm to explore the art of writing with celebrated classroom teacher Linda Rief, the recipient of the 2021 NCTE Distinguished Service Award and author of eight best-selling books. For forty years Linda was energized and inspired by her eighth grade students and their writing. They wrote together, believing -- then and now -- in the words of Pat Schneider (Writing Alone and with Others): “When we write, we create, and when we offer our creation to one another, we close the wound of loneliness and may participate in healing the broken world. Our words, our truth, our imaging, our dreaming, may be the best gifts we have to give.”
In honoring those beliefs, and in the words of Don Graves, “Let’s write!” on Friday night. This small gathering sells out quickly, so don’t delay!
On Saturday, from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm, Carl Anderson and Matt Glover will focus on writing instruction, including how to increase student engagement in writing, how to become curriculum decision-makers, how to individualize instruction, and how to connect students to mentor authors. Carl and Matt will share strategies that work in diverse classrooms and key lessons from How to Become a Better Writing Teacher. As author Katie Wood Ray said, “I really don’t know of a writing book that is as comprehensive as this one.”
Carl and Matt consult with schools throughout the US and internationally. Between them, they are the authors of 14 books, including their most recent solo books, Teaching Fantasy Writing: Lessons that Inspire Student Engagement and Creativity (Carl) and Craft and Process Studies (Matt).
You don’t want to miss this dynamic opportunity to write, think, and learn together. You will meet passionate colleagues and inspiring presenters and will leave with resources to supercharge your teaching.
