This class is geared toward students who have a little or no experience with pastels but are curious about this beautiful medium. Instructor Sarah Eastman has been painting with pastels since 2015.
This two-part course will cover an introduction to the medium, instruction about value and color, and exploration of textures. Students should be able to attend both sessions.
Session 1 (May 24) Introduction to pastels, pastel papers, safety concerns and simple techniques. Students will use these foundations to create thumbnail sketches and value studies to begin a painting.
Session 2 (June 7) Dive into color! Students will learn the difference between local color and expressive color. We will also explore creating texture with pastels. In the afternoon students will work on a larger final project. We will discuss fixing techniques and framing tips unique to pastels.
