Plant a seed, in every beautiful corner of the world! This summer, school age children and their families are invited to join our weekly World Wednesday program from 6/10 to 8/5. Each week we will go on an adventure to a different part of the world through craft, performance, or activity. This is the perfect opportunity to explore and celebrate the diverse world cultures!
Hula is a traditional Hawaiian dance with graceful movements and energetic music. In today's program, Ilima Young-Dunn, a professional Polynesian dancer will share a little about the history of the hula dance – why it was first danced on the islands, how the dance form was almost lost, and how King David Kalakaua saved the hula by bringing it back in a new form. Join us in this fun workshop as we understand the narrative aspect of the hula and how it uses hand gestures to tell a story, see some of the many props and costume pieces used in performance, and finally get up and try a simple version of the hula yourself!
