About this Event
Join us for a thoughtful and meaningful sustainable sewing session as we mark World Refugee Day, coming together to create small handmade bags and assemble craft kits to donate to female asylum seekers, while gently reflecting on the difficult decisions people make in seeking safety, stability, and a place to call home.
In this hands-on workshop, we will sew simple, practical bags and bring together donated materials into creative kits, offering both useful items and a sense of welcome and care; itβs a space where making becomes an act of solidarity, combining creativity with compassion in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Participants are warmly encouraged to bring along their own sewing machines if they have one, as well as any unused craft materials, kits, or supplies they would be willing to donate, helping us to maximise what we can create and share with others.
This session welcomes all skill levels, from complete beginners to more experienced sewists, with guidance available throughout, and an emphasis on connection, kindness, and collective action through craft.
Disclaimer & Safety Notice
Our sustainable textile workshops involve the use of equipment and materials that may present hazards, including but not limited to:
- Sharp objects: scissors, needles, and pins
- Heat sources: irons, glue guns, and other heated equipment
Use of Equipment
Participants use all equipment and materials at their own risk. We will provide clear guidance on safe use and, where reasonable and appropriate, we will make reasonable adjustments to enable participation. However, due to the inherent nature of textile work, reasonable adjustments may affect the final quality or appearance of your finished item.
Right to Withdraw from Activity
We reserve the right to request that a participant ceases use of equipment if we reasonably determine that they are unable to safely operate the tools, or if no reasonable adjustments can be implemented to enable safe participation. This decision is made in the interests of health and safety for all participants. We will not require participation in activities where suitable reasonable adjustments are refused by the participant.
Carers and Support
Carers and support persons are welcome to attend our workshops. If you plan to attend with a carer, or if you require any reasonable adjustments due to disability, health conditions, or other access requirements, we ask that you contact us before booking to discuss your needs. This allows us to plan appropriately and ensure we can provide the support you require.
