About this Event
Join us for a creative and practical sustainable sewing session where we transform everyday waste into something useful, beautiful, and long-lasting, as together we explore how discarded plastic carrier bags can be turned into durable materials for bag-making and craft projects.
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to repurpose plastic bags by cutting them into strips to create “plarn” (plastic yarn), or by carefully fusing layers to form a workable fabric, before shaping and sewing them into unique, reusable bags; it’s a brilliant introduction to accessible upcycling techniques that reduce waste while building practical skills.
Participants are warmly encouraged to bring along their own clean plastic carrier bags to work with, helping to reduce waste while adding a personal touch to their creations, and if you have a sewing machine at home, please feel free to bring it along, although basic tools and guidance will be available for everyone regardless of experience level.
This session is open to beginners and improvers alike, with a relaxed and supportive atmosphere where learning is shared, creativity is celebrated, and sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
Disclaimer & Safety Notice
Our sustainable textile workshops involve the use of equipment and materials that may present hazards, including but not limited to:
- Sharp objects: scissors, needles, and pins

Use of Equipment
Participants use all equipment and materials at their own risk. We will provide clear guidance on safe use and, where reasonable and appropriate, we will make reasonable adjustments to enable participation. However, due to the inherent nature of textile work, reasonable adjustments may affect the final quality or appearance of your finished item.
Right to Withdraw from Activity
We reserve the right to request that a participant ceases use of equipment if we reasonably determine that they are unable to safely operate the tools, or if no reasonable adjustments can be implemented to enable safe participation. This decision is made in the interests of health and safety for all participants. We will not require participation in activities where suitable reasonable adjustments are refused by the participant.
Carers and Support
Carers and support persons are welcome to attend our workshops. If you plan to attend with a carer, or if you require any reasonable adjustments due to disability, health conditions, or other access requirements, we ask that you contact us before booking to discuss your needs. This allows us to plan appropriately and ensure we can provide the support you require.
