Workshop: The Art of Writing for Children
Instructors Dawn Brotherton and Narielle Living
Writing a children’s book is about far more than telling a good story—it’s about seeing the world through a child’s eyes.
In this engaging workshop, we’ll explore the nuances of crafting stories for young readers, from finding the right voice and striking the balance between simplicity and depth to developing memorable characters, shaping compelling narratives, and choosing language that resonates with a child’s imagination. We’ll examine what makes a children’s book both meaningful and magical, consider the unique relationship between words and illustrations, and explore how to write stories that entertain, inspire, and stay with readers long after the final page.
Whether you’re nurturing an early idea or refining a manuscript, this workshop will offer practical guidance, creative inspiration, and a deeper understanding of the art and craft of writing for children.
Thursday, November 19, 6:00- 7:30 PM
