An introductory class on using a hollander beater and creating beautiful paper that can be used for drawing, painting, and even printmaking.
This class will begin by focusing on processing a selection of fibers to make Western European style paper. After using a Hollander beater to break down these fibers, we will make numerous sheets of paper and explore ways to sheet form, followed by an in-depth conversation around drying techniques.
Looking at paper through a historical lens, we will also talk about the importance of creating unique substrates and discuss ways of bringing hand papermaking into a variety of studio practices and set-ups.
Materials: All materials included in registration fee.
