About this Event
In times that feel fast, uncertain, or overwhelming, it can help to have something small and steady to hold onto.
In this workshop, you’ll create a handcrafted bundle of up to five personal talismans - simple, meaningful pieces you can wear every day. Using foundational jewelry techniques, you’ll build a collection of small objects that reflect what matters most to you right now - symbols of strength, reminders of direction, markers of change, or simply forms that feel right in your hands. Along the way, you’ll learn and practice a range of metalsmithing skills, including sawing and piercing, soldering, bezel setting, fusing, forming, texturing, finishing, and more.
Beginners will be guided step by step, while more experienced jewelers will have space to refine their technique, explore new approaches, and work with greater intention. You’ll leave with a finished piece that feels like yours - and a way to translate your inner landscape into objects you can carry with you for protection, healing and all good things.
About the Instructor: Alison Marks is a Petaluma-based metalsmith and artist creating one-of-a-kind jewelry and talismans inspired by patterns in nature and the built world. Her work is grounded and contemporary, yet carries an ancient sensibility, shaped by traditional techniques and a distinctly “gritty and pretty” aesthetic. Influenced by a life lived across cultures, she brings a sharp eye for pattern, structure, and meaning into everything she makes and teaches. In her classes, Alison guides both beginners and experienced jewelers to create pieces that are personal, intentional, and built to last.
