Improv Circles Workshop
Cost: $40 per student
Length: 6 hours
Improv Circles - the goal of this class is to focus on the Core technique of curved, freeform piecing without pins or templates.
We will start with skill Building Exercises of the Four Basic types of Units, and then progress to designing individual Compositions.
1. Basic Quarter Circle Unit
2.Fine Arcs
3. Chunky Circles
4. MuIti- Layered
Circles Bonus:
Arcs with (inserts)
Students will begin with basic skill building exercises, learn 4 basic types of circular units as listed above, practice adding inserts, and then work on their own sample compositions. Blocks can be arranged into a wall-hanging or table runner.
You Will Need:
A Sewing Machine in good working order ( a newer machine with “needle up/down capability” or a knee lift is helpful.)
Rotary cutter with a Sharp blade
12 x 18 cutting mat
A square Quilters Ruler – minimum size of 9.5 x 9.5 (you can share with a friend)
Chalk Pencil
Fabric: Please pre-cut Twelve 10-inch squares in solid fabrics – 6 dark colors, and 6 light colors that you like together.
Scraps – bring several scraps that are at least 6”x6”. These can be prints or woven's in dark & light colors for insertion exercises. I like to use linens for texture- & sometimes I shop for these at Thrift stores!
Thread- a neutral color (gray, khaki), or one that coordinates with your fabric
Mini Iron & ironing board or Mat
Water mist bottle, and spray starch of your choice (Best Press, Magic Spray, etc.)
Notebook, or Sketchpad & Pencil
