Workshop at BlaBlaLab: Wired Connections with Sophie Nadel

Each participant will create a pair of gloves fitted with "half a circuit" of LEDs and hand-embroidered decorations. The circuit only lights up when two gloves touch, whether that's the wearer clasping their own hands together, or the whole group joining hands in a circle to complete the connection collectively.
Led by Sophie Nadel, this workshop introduces the basics of electronics and e-textiles (conductive thread, sewable components, simple circuits) in a relaxed, playful, and creative setting. No prior experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands (and gloves) dirty with needle, thread, and a few blinking lights.
All materials and components will be provided, along with ideas for taking your new skills further. Come solo or bring a friend, either way, you'll need someone to complete the circuit with.
About the Author
Sophie Nadel's practice combines creative technology, textiles and design research. Through workshops, exhibitions, publications and visual art, she uses textile and digital techniques to make technology more tactile and accessible. She is interested in slowing technology down, revealing its processes and encouraging audiences to engage with it through making. Her work explores data, craft and emerging technologies. Using traditional textile techniques, she questions ideas of AI, automation and digital ownership, often reframing new technologies through methods historically associated with women's work. Kom naar een middag vol "Wired Connections": een praktische workshop waarin we de speelse kant van elektronische verbindingen in e-textiel ontdekken.
Elke deelnemer maakt een paar handschoenen voorzien van een "halve schakeling" met LED's en handgeborduurde versieringen. De schakeling licht pas op wanneer de twee handschoenen elkaar raken; dit kan doordat de drager de eigen handen ineenstrengelt, of doordat de hele groep elkaar de hand reikt in een kring om de verbinding gezamenlijk te voltooien.
Onder leiding van Sophie Nadel maak je in deze workshop kennis met de basisprincipes van elektronica en e-textiel (geleidende draad, naaibare componenten, eenvoudige schakelingen) in een ontspannen, speelse en creatieve sfeer. Er is geen voorkennis vereist; nieuwsgierigheid en zin om aan de slag te gaan met naald, draad en knipperende lichtjes zijn voldoende.
Alle materialen en onderdelen worden verzorgd, inclusief ideeën om je nieuwe vaardigheden verder te ontwikkelen. Kom alleen of neem een vriend(in) mee; hoe dan ook heb je iemand nodig om de schakeling mee te voltooien.
Over de maker
Het werk van Sophie Nadel combineert creatieve technologie, textiel en ontwerpend onderzoek. Via workshops, tentoonstellingen, publicaties en beeldende kunst gebruikt ze textiel- en digitale technieken om technologie tastbaarder en toegankelijker te maken. Ze wil technologie vertragen, de processen erachter zichtbaar maken en het publiek uitnodigen om zich ermee te verbinden door zelf dingen te maken. Haar werk verkent thema's als data, ambacht en opkomende technologieën. Door traditionele textieltechnieken toe te passen, bevraagt ze ideeën over AI, automatisering en digitaal eigendom; vaak plaatst ze nieuwe technologieën in een ander daglicht door gebruik te maken van methoden die historisch gezien met vrouwenwerk worden geassocieerd.
