About this Event
Previous visits to the Worcester College gardens have proved highly popular – with good reason. The College says that the “gardens are unique among all the Oxford colleges in being landscaped in a naturalistic manner, formed at a time when the late ‘picturesque’ strand of the landscape garden was giving way to the more decorative approach, with shrubberies, of the Regency period”. They include a 200-year old lake at the centre, fed by the Oxford Canal, which bounds the site. From the Main Quad, the gardens extend south to the Nuffield Lawn, an area which has been described as an arboretum thanks to its majestic plane trees. In summer this is a riot of colour, featuring flowering perennials and exotic-leafed plants. The tour will be led by a member of the College’s Gardens and Grounds team.
