Wood Furniture Refinishing Basics (2-Part Class) @ RCLC

In this two-part, you'll bring a small piece of wooden furniture and learn the basics of cleaning, repairing, sanding, finishing, and more.
About this Event

Beginner Furniture Resurfacing is a hands-on class for anyone interested in giving old furniture a fresh start. Participants will learn the basics of evaluating a piece, cleaning and preparing surfaces, making minor repairs, sanding, and choosing the right paint, stain, or finish for a project. We’ll also cover common beginner mistakes, useful tools and supplies, and simple techniques that can help you get professional-looking results without expensive equipment.

No previous furniture restoration experience is needed.

Students will bring: A small piece of furniture to practice on, like a side table, nightstand, or other small furniture piece. Chairs and bookshelves are not recommended for this class.

Please be sure you can make it to both of the class instances (listed below) and register only for the first date listed (October 4):

• Part One (Required): Sunday, October 4, from 10am–1pm, at Reuse Commons Lake City
• Part Two (Required): Sunday, October 11, from 10am–1pm, at Reuse Commons Lake City

About the instructor, Tiffany Lamoreaux: Tiffany is a Seattle-based furniture artist, restoration specialist, and educator with over five years of hands-on experience in furniture repair, refinishing, restoration, and creative upcycling. Through her furniture hobby and side hustle, Tiffany blends traditional restoration techniques with modern design elements, including custom 3D-printed accents and artistic furniture transformations inspired by Mid-Century Modern, Art Deco, and contemporary design styles.

Her work focuses on giving discarded or damaged furniture new life while making restoration accessible, sustainable, and creatively empowering for others. With a professional background in facilitation, adult education, and community-centered leadership, Tiffany brings a patient, approachable teaching style that helps beginners feel confident learning new skills.

This class is offered at a reduced rate as a part of Seattle REconomy's fundraiser in support of expanding programming to our new Lake City location. ACCESSIBILITY:

• Much of the venue is wheelchair accessible. Some classes may utilize the balcony space which only has standard-width door access. The facility has an ADA compliant all-gender restroom.
• Non-English and ASL interpreters are not provided at our classes and events, however attendees are welcome to bring their own interpreters.

GETTING THERE:

• By transit: Served by bus route 522 from Roosevelt Station, or route 61 from Northgate Station
• By bike: There are multiple bicycle route options available to the Reuse Commons, and you are welcome to stow your bicycle inside during your visit.
• Car parking: There is a shared asphalt parking lot that fits up to 10 cars. There is additional street parking along Lake City Way NE.
