COLLEGE-READY WOMEN’S SELF-DEFENSE CLINIC

On Saturday, August 8th, Midland Jiu-Jitsu is hosting a Women’s Self-Defense Clinic designed to teach practical skills for real-world violence—not choreographed techniques or unrealistic demonstrations.
This clinic is led by Brad Barnes, a former Midland Police Officer, Field Training Officer, and Lead Defensive Tactics Instructor, who is also currently a nationally accredited Military and Law Enforcement Combatives Instructor. With over 25 years of experience in MMA and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Brad has trained police officers, military personnel, first responders, competitors, and civilians in pressure-tested skills designed for real resistance and real assaults.
During this clinic, we’ll cover:
✅ Recognizing criminal behavior and pre-assault indicators
✅ Avoiding dangerous situations before they become physical
✅ Verbal boundary setting and de-escalation
✅ Escaping common grabs, pins, and holds
✅ Defending against larger, stronger attackers
✅ Ground survival if you’re knocked down
✅ Scenario-based training built around the kinds of situations women are statistically more likely to encounter
This isn’t about teaching people to fight.
It’s about giving women the awareness, confidence, and practical skills to recognize danger early, make sound decisions under stress, create opportunities to escape, and get home safely.
