Join us this September as employment lawyers Alex Harper, Cassie Blackledge and Isabella Milnes James take a practical look at the employment law issues affecting women in construction.

The session will be led by Alex Harper, a Senior Employment Solicitor at Herrington Carmichael specialising in equal pay and sex discrimination, whose career has particularly focused on the construction sector. She'll be joined by Cassie Blackledge and Isabella Milnes James from her team, who between them specialise in family-friendly rights and sexual harassment matters.

You'll come away with the confidence, clarity and know-how to navigate some of the common challenges women face in the industry. The evening will close with a dedicated Q&A, followed by networking.

Meet the speakers

Alex Harper
Alex is a Senior Solicitor in the Employment team at Herrington Carmichael, advising on a wide range of contentious and non‑contentious matters across multiple sectors, with plenty of hands‑on experience in construction, financial services and leisure/hospitality.

Alex’s focus areas include sex discrimination, equal pay and the gender pay gap. She regularly handles complex Employment Tribunal cases, including those involving whistleblowing, employment status, neurodivergence and discrimination. She also works closely with clients on redundancies, HR policies, settlements, corporate transactions and employee‑relations investigations.

Alex joined Herrington Carmichael in 2021 after qualifying in London in 2019 at both national and international firms. Before law, she studied French and German at King’s College London, then completed her GDL and LPC at the University of Law

Cassie Blackledge
Cassie is a Solicitor in the Employment team at Herrington Carmichael and works closely with Alex on both contentious and non‑contentious matters.

She specialises in family‑friendly rights, from day‑to‑day HR and ER support to Employment Tribunal claims and advises individuals on a wide range of employment matters.

Cassie joined Herrington Carmichael in late 2024 as an NQ solicitor after training at a national firm. Her educational journey began in Spain, then took her to Grand Cayman, before returning to the UK to complete her law degree and LPC at the University of Law.

Isabella Milnes James
Isabella is a Solicitor in the Employment team at Herrington Carmichael, working alongside Alex and Cassie across contentious and non-contentious matters, including within the construction sector. She has particular experience in employment law issues relating to sexual harassment, advising in both Tribunal proceedings and HR and ER contexts.

She joined Herrington Carmichael in 2023, initially working with the firm's private wealth practice, before training with the firm and qualifying as a Solicitor earlier this year. Before pursuing law, she studied English Literature, then completed the GDL and LPC at the University of Law.
