Woman’s “Try it out” Firefighting event

Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service is inviting women from the local community to attend a Women’s Try It Out Day at Hitchin Fire Station. This informal and supportive session is designed to give you a hands-on insight into the physical elements of the role and the opportunity to ask questions about becoming a firefighter.

The fire service is committed to building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve, and we want to encourage more women to consider a career as an on-call or wholetime firefighter.

During the session you will have the chance to:

• Try some of the physical activities used in firefighter training such as hose running and equipment carries

• Take part in a short fitness challenge similar to the shuttle run (bleep test)

• Meet serving female firefighters and learn about the role

• Ask questions about recruitment, training and fitness preparation

This is not a test or assessment — it’s simply an opportunity to experience parts of the job in a friendly and supportive environment.
