About this Event

Maynard Dixon was much more than a “cowboy artist” – he was a careful observer and visual reporter deeply focused on the American frontier. He did more than just depict the wilderness, pioneers and indigenous peoples of the West; he chronicled their changes and bore witness to their passing. His last major illustration project, in 1927, was for Francis Parkman’s classic book The Oregon Trail. This exhibition highlights rare original ink drawings created for the book, alongside paintings that reveal Dixon’s deep love for the American West.
