About this Event
From Priorat to Provence, the warm Mediterranean is home to two grapes which are unsung heros, Carignan and Grenache. Pale and cherry sweet, Grenache makes heady perfumed wines and its signature extends from Chateauneuf to Barossa and South Africa where old vines make for exceptional wines. Carignan is a prodigious vine and its tendency to high yields hurt its reputation in the past, but when yields are low and from older vines, it delivers dark, spicy wines, of great power and compelling character. Under the name of Mazuelo Carignan also appears in Rioja and both Carignan and Grenache have white and pink skinned mutations which produce full bodied, broad flavoured white wines especially well suited to Mediterranean flavours of garlic and herbs. Tonight we celebrate these two country cousins in all their forms, white and red, from their homelands in Southern Europe to their adopted countries in the new world.
Our shop tastings start at 7.30pm and run for approximately one-and-a-half to two hours. We will taste 6-8 wines on a theme, and bread, cheese and charcuterie is provided to match with the wines. Due to the communal nature of the tasting, we are unable to cater for dietary requirements.
