A time to gather in community, be nourished by the dark, and plant seeds of intention for the coming year
About this Event

The Winter Solstice Ritual for Reflection & Renewal is the second in a series of Work That Reconnects events happening this winter on the first and third Sunday of each month.

The third Sunday in December falls on the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, and we're hosting a special gathering to honor the Earth and each other during this potent time.

The solstice is a traditional time in many cultures to gather in community, engage in contemplative practices, and honor the turning of the wheel of the year. Please join us at this balance point in the year, where the long dark begins to wane and we enter the time of the return of the light.

What to Expect:

Grounded in the elements and a supportive container, we'll participate in a ritual of reflection and renewal for ourselves and our world.

We will ground into our bodies with some somatic practices and create space for what is most present on our minds and hearts. We'll engage in a short guided meditation and utilize art and writing practices to process and reflect on the past year. Connected to the wisdom and stillness of the dark, we will vision into our goals and desires for the coming year, and carry these forward with us as we move back out into the world.

This ritual will be loosely based in , a framework for connecting with gratitude, honoring our collective grief, making sense of the moment we’re in, and identifying our role(s) in building a more just and liberatory world.

Future grief circles in January and February will also incorporate Earth-based ritual, rooting into our connection with seasonal cycles as we come together to practice The Work That Reconnects. Each session builds on the last, and also exists as a stand-alone offering. Come to one, or all, as you feel called.

Space is limited - registration in advance is required.

Sliding scale monetary contributions will cover the costs of the space, supplies, and some of the facilitator's time. 20% of all funds raised will be donated to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund and Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Accessibility and Health Information:

The Friends Meetinghouse is ADA accessible.

There will be air purifiers running. Masking is not required but is very welcome.

If you've been exposed to anyone who's sick or you're experiencing symptoms, please stay home.

About the Facilitator:

Abigail Singer is a facilitator, community herbalist, organizational development consultant, and grief worker. She’s been active in movements for social and environmental justice since the late 90s, and has come to see grief work as a necessary and powerful tool for healing and transformation on personal, community and societal levels.

In her consulting work, she helps organizations develop strategy, grow through change and conflict, and bring their vision, mission, structure and process into alignment.

As a grief worker and retreat facilitator, she draws from many years of experience practicing group facilitation, mindfulness meditation, holistic medicine, and Earth-based ritual. She's been facilitating grief work in the tradition of The Work That Reconnects since 2017.
