This is the Winter Season of Dancing for Northern Michigan Ecstatic Dance in Traverse City. We meet the First and Third Tuesday of every month from 6:06PM-8:08PM
Dec 3 is about PEACE – Winter is a time for shhhhhhh, quiet, slowness, calm. And so we enter this season with a sense of peace in our hearts, and a wish for peace within all.
December 16 is about GIFTS – This dance begins with a winter market. It is a time when we recognize our abundance and share what we have and reciprocate with all those we appreciate.
January 7 is for VISION – At the beginning of the year we often look ahead. What is your vision? How do your eyes support you?
January 21 is about being INVIOLATE – No matter what happens, there is a place inside you that is inviolate. “All shall be well...I don’t mean that life won’t bring you tragedy, I only mean you will be well in spite of it. There is a place in you that is inviolate. You will find your way there when you need to.” -Yaltha, from The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd
February 4 is for WIND – Motion and change. Wind has direction, temperature, strength, and energy. Let’s use the wind.
February 18 is for CABIN FEVER – Winter means lots of closed doors and covered skin, often being indoors too much. If you are feeling a bit stir-crazy, join us for this one! Playlist by Jillian Votava.

Each time we gather we begin by relaxing into our bodies and pausing to allow our full selves to arrive. Then we explore the theme in various ways - sharing, moving, playing - to prime ourselves for expression and weave our group together.
Dance is the main event. The hour-long playlist will carry you through an experience of gradual opening, energy building, transformation, release, integration, and rest.
The dance is for free-form expression of however you are in the moment. We practice letting go and letting come, in a consent-based space.
When the music is finished there will be time for optional sharing about anything that happened during the dance. Then we close and return to our lives, with more attunement to our bodies and ourselves.
Any form of dancing or movement is allowed as long as it is safe for everyone. All people of all sizes, types, and ages welcome.
Registration not required.
Pay as able $10-20 for each dance. Venmo @JStar-Williams or cash at the dance. A lot goes into the creation of this experience and everyone's contribution is needed to keep it going.
Things to consider bringing:
**Yourself exactly as you are
**Water
**If you feel moved to do so: something to share: poem, song, snack, a beautiful item, rattle, etc.
Take care of yourself. You are responsible for your well-being.
Check in with yourself often to make sure everything you are doing feels good to you. It can be easy to get overwhelmed or follow the group when you really would be more comfortable with something else. It is always okay to do something different if it will feel more supportive for you. Take responsibility for your experience, including by letting Jeanie know if you have a suggestion or need support around something.
