Evening of Light:
Imagine walking into a dance space that has been transformed into an ancient temple: smells of herbs, candle light, and a warm inviting atmosphere beckon you in so that you can relax and greet your fellow humans with love and openness. In the corner is an alter with a pathway to walk the spiral and enter the center, where you set your intentions for a new year.
Sisters of the Drum has a special evening planned and they will be your hostesses for the night. They begin with a potluck feast with live musical entertainment for dinner. The food is blessed and the music begins as people nourish themselves in body and spirit.
All stand in a circle and begin the Light Ritual to celebrate the solstice with all of our senses and fully in our bodies. As the ritual comes to a close the invitation to dance is expressed and all are given a chance to release all attatchment of the past and future and enter the moment more fully, if full ecstatic expression.
Spiral Dance:
The spiral is a deeply significant symbol across cultures and history, and it carries rich meanings that span the physical, spiritual, and cosmic realms. It is an emblem of natural cycles, personal transformation, and universal energies. The spiral can symbolize the journey of life itself, encompassing birth, growth, death, and rebirth. In this sense, the spiral represents both the individual journey and the collective progression of humanity or the universe as a whole.
The association with fertility and the womb speaks to the spiral's connection to creation and new beginnings. Its circular, inward and outward movement mirrors the gestational process — from conception (the center of the spiral) to birth (the outer expansion). Cultures have seen this as a symbol of the divine feminine, the source of life, and the power of the Earth itself.
Spiral dancing ties into ritual and celebration. Ancient cultures have used dance as a means to connect to their environment, their community, their deeper desires, and the divine. The centrifugal force of the dance is a way of expelling negative energy, offering healing, and aligning with cosmic forces. The rhythm of the drumbeat, a primal sound, helps to amplify the spiraling movement, assisting individuals to enter an altered state of consciousness, facilitating deeper connection, release, and communion.
Sisters of the Drum is offering small group spiral dance sessions for individuals (adult, all genders) to experience this powerful dance for release, healing, and connection to spirit. Space is limited so register early
