About Broome Hut
Owned and operated by the Grand Huts Association, the Broome Hut replaced an antiquated cabin in the Second Creek Basin on the west side of Berthoud Pass, Colorado. The Broome Hut has some unique amenities which include a pellet stove instead of a wood-burning heat stove. It is very easy to operate and has clear instructions posted at the hut (pellets provided). The hut has indoor composting toilets similar to Janet’s Cabin and Francie’s Cabin. There is also a day-use room at the hut but it is totally separated from the overnight area and they share no amenities. Because of the popularity of the area for day-use you may encounter dogs along the trail and around the hut.
- Approach Distance: 1 mile
- Elevation Gain: 800 ft
About This Trip
Are you looking for the ultimate backcountry skiing and/or riding experience? Escape the resort crowds by earning your turns on a backcountry skiing adventure in in the Berthoud Pass area of Grand County. Backcountry skiing provides the opportunity to extend your ski season and experience something few skiers ever will: skiing powder in solitude. Join us on one of our fully guided hut-based backcountry skiing trips at the Broome Hut!
For 3 days, your primary focus will be to relax at the hut and ski your face off! In the evening, chill by the fire with a cup of your favorite beverage and join your guide team as you prepare a home cooked meal all in the untamed views of the Colorado Rockies. Just like a traditional hut trip we will work together to prep and cook meals, gather water, keep the fire going, etc.
Not an expert skier? No problem! If you can ski Vail’s back bowls, you can ski in our backcountry. Our experienced and professional guides will teach uphill and downhill skiing technique, risk management, and talk you through decision-making in the backcountry. Already started your backcountry journey, just farm the pow!
