This year’s 20th anniversary program pays homage to the works and composers which have inspired and sustained Musica Vitale’s successes from the very beginning, refined and perfected with years of experience and enlivened by new collaborations. With a focus on the lush harmonies and moving lyrics of the Romantic period, a wide range of composers and styles will prove equally enjoyable a choral performance as an audience experience. From the rustic strains of Baltic folk music as collected by the Armenian choirmaster Komitas to the quintessential lyric expression of Schumann, the profundity of Rachmaninov, up through the Impressionism of such 20th century French romantics as Lili Boulanger –each a facet of the rich gem that is this movement’s contribution to music.
