Original Studio-One-era Jamaican Singer Winston Jarrett pairs up with the Lightcode Band for his 2024 Album Release Concert
A star-studded night of live roots reggae music, with performances from Aaron Nigel Smith, Jubba White, Michael Leslie, and DJ Qualifi.
Born September 14, 1940 in Lime Tree Gardens, Saint Ann Parish, Winston "Flames" Jarrett came from a humble background in the Jones Town area of Kingston, Jamaica.
A singer, songwriter, producer, arranger, writer - now 84 - in possession of his great voice, passion and spiritual clarity as a Rastaman.
Winston Jarrett is a living reggae legend.
He was taught to play guitar by Jimmy Clifford and Alton Ellis and was a member of Alton Ellis's backing band, The Flames, in the early 1960's.
'Flames' recorded a number of early Jamaican classics with Ellis and Duke Reid like ‘Cry Tough,’ ‘Dance Crasher,’ ‘The Preacher’, and ‘I Have Got A Date.’
He met Haile Selassie I (Ras Tafari) in Jamaica in 1966 and remains a devoted member of the Ras Tafari movement.
In 1967, Jarrett parted ways with UK-bound Ellis and formed The Righteous Flames, with Egga Gardner and Junior Green, going on to record over a hundred songs with numerous studios in the 1970's, including Joe Gibbs and Lee "Scratch" Perry.
Accumulating over 17 albums and dozens of solo and compilation recordings, Winston additionally backed up Ken Boothe, Marcia Griffiths and Winston Francis.
He also worked with Enid Cumberland and Larry Marshall.
To achieve all this as an Independent Artist, Jarrett created his own labels Attra, Human Rights, Humble, and Bigmore Productions Labels.
Winston migrated to the Seattle area in the early 1990s and has continued his recording career.
His new LP "Must Be A Revolution" just came out in August 2024
