Wine Class - Single Vineyard Rioja
About this Event
Rioja, the most prestigious wine region of Spain, has a long and illustrious history dominated by great houses and large wineries each of whose style is well known by connoisseurs. Yet this tradition has the effect of obscuring the sense of place of these wines. While the great wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux were identified by villages and single vineyards, this way of thinking was foreign to Rioja. When Telmo Rodriguez took over his family's estate, Remelluri, in 2009, he created the Lindes de Remelluri project to combat this oversight. Working with growers across Rioja, he released the first village-labeled wines of this region.
In this class, Anita Bender will lead an exploration of the Lindes de Remelluri project. You will taste wines from six different sites in Rioja: Salinillas de Buradón, Labastida, Rivas de Tereso, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Peciña, and Ábalos. Each wine is made in the same manner, allowing a unique opportunity to compare how the terroir of each village affects the final wine. Join us for this chance to experience a true taste of Spanish terroir.
